Bad With Names

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 26, 2026

We built Bad With Names to keep your relationships private — not to mine them.

Bad With Names ("the app," "we," "us") is a private, voice-first tool for remembering the people you meet. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how it's handled.

What we collect

Account identity

When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique identifier and, on first sign-in, your name. We use this only to create and secure your account. We do not receive your Apple ID password, and if you choose Apple's "Hide My Email," we never see your real email address.

The memories you create

When you capture a memory, we store the content you choose to save: the person's name and the details you spoke or typed ("memory hooks"), any follow-ups, topics, and the approximate place you met. This is the core function of the app and is stored under your account.

Approximate location (optional)

If you grant location permission, the app tags a memory with an approximate place (for example, a neighborhood) at the moment you capture it. Location is used only at capture time and only with your permission. If you deny location, the app simply omits it — we never collect or store a location you didn't approve.

What we do not collect

Your audio never leaves your device. Speech is transcribed on your device. Only the resulting text transcript is sent to our servers — the audio recording itself is never uploaded and is not stored by us.

No tracking. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

How your information is used

We use the information above solely to create and secure your account, turn your captured notes into the structured memories the app provides, let you search and recall the people you've saved, and (with permission) tag memories with an approximate place. We do not use your memories for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

How it's stored and processed

Your memories are stored on our hosting provider's infrastructure (Railway, backed by a PostgreSQL database) under your account. To turn a spoken note into a structured memory, the transcript text is processed by a third-party AI provider (OpenAI) solely to extract the structured fields, governed by that provider's terms.

Your choices and rights

Children

Bad With Names is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Common questions

How do I capture a memory? Open the Capture tab, tap the mic, and say what you remember — or use "Type instead." Review the card and tap Save.

Is my voice recorded? No. Transcription happens on your device; the audio never leaves your phone.

How do I delete my data? Remove individual people in the app, or email us to delete your entire account.
